Kitty Drama

Late Tuesday night, my daughter ran into my room crying, carrying her cat. Poor Mr. Twisty's (Mr. Twisty's Twisted Cheese Curls anyone?) hind foot was blown up like a balloon, claws popped out and toes splayed.

My first thought was a spider bite, then I looked closer. Blue stripes were buried deep and barely visible on the cat's hind leg. A ponytail holder. What!

No time to ask questions, I barked out orders, "grab a pillowcase and I'll get some scissors!) The cat was going in the pillowcase because I refuse to get shredded by kitty claws. It took some rough handling to get my hands on that back leg. He must have been in a great deal of pain. Then it took a few tries to get the scissors under the tightly wrapped band in order to snip it.

Mr. Twisty slunk away shaking that back leg. He found a spot to lay, right where he would get stepped on and he didn't move for the rest of the night. Then there was time to ask questions. Who did this? Why? How long was it on? I heard a lot of "I don't remember's."

The top of the cat's foot was dark purple, almost black. I decided to see how it looked in the morning before taking him to the vet. I called in the next morning because his whole leg was swollen, and of course, the vet wanted to see him in the office. I was offered a laser treatment to bring down the swelling. Umm...no thanks. My husband would rather not spend more than $0.75 on a lame cat, if you know what I mean.

I really wondered if Mr. Twisty would have to have that leg amputated, but today he is looking really good. The swelling has gone down considerably, though the skin is still black-ish. A certain little girl did a good deal of growing up over the past few days. Enough drama for one week, don't you think?
